Presidents Message

Hello COCHMM members and friends!!

As President of the COCHMM in 2011, I would like to thank everyone for making 2011 a success. Some of our accomplishments for 2011 include:
  • Holding six membership meetings
  • Holding 11 board meetings
  • Going to a Clippers baseball game together as a group
  • Beginning the “Sponsorship Program” to help support our chapter and keep the meeting costs low for our members
  • Increasing membership by approximately 10%
  • Developing and passing the Chapter by-laws in May
  • Attending the AHMP Leadership meeting, which as hosted here in Columbus, Ohio in April. Jeff Bates and Vicki Schneider were our representatives
  • Attending the AHMP National Conference. Mike Ryan was our Chapter’s representative
  • Holding one joint meeting with ASSE, and
  • The Chapter Website has had more than 2,000 hits!

Thank you, too, for visiting our website. In 2011, we started our COCHMM website where we post important information like meeting dates and copies of presentations. And, we look forward to improving and expanding our website in 2012 to include job postings and much more. A special thanks goes to Allen Fredrick, one of the COCHMM founding Members, who provided books and coffee mugs at the May meeting hosted by Columbus State Community College.

We recently elected a new board for 2012 and our first board meeting was held on December 15th 2011, where I passed the President’s reins to Mike Ryan. Our new board is already hard at work and has established meeting dates and times for both Membership and Board meetings. We identified some topics for the 2012 meeting schedule (visit our website for meeting information), and we have already obtained a few corporate sponsorship commitments to support some of the meetings. We also established several committees including membership, sponsorship and the education committee, which will be looking into the feasibility of holding a CHMM certification course in Columbus in the future. Based on these early 2012 accomplishments, I am confident that the 2012 board members will continue to promote and support the Environmental, safety, health and transportation professions, and they will continue to help us make the Columbus Chapter of CHMM a wonderful success in 2012. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you as your COCHMM President for 2011.

Now that I have assumed the position of Past President of COCHMM, I pledge my full support to our new president and board so together we can meet the visions and goals of the Columbus CHMM Chapter. I want to extend to you a personal invitation to join us for as many of our events and meetings as your schedule will permit in 2012. Get involved. Join a committee. Because I did, 2011 was a very interesting and rewarding experience for me.

2011 was truly a very successful year.

I hope to see everyone at the COCHMM meeting in February 2012. Have a Happy and Prosperous New Year!!

Mark Slaiman, CHMM Past President, COCHMM
